Bradley Manning’s attorney has suggested that the hundreds of megabytes of U.S. government data his client allegedly handed to WikiLeaks didn’t really harm national security after all. A new document filed in Manning’s criminal case provides an early glimpse at the defense’s legal strategy in advance of a preliminary hearing on December 16.
Bradley Manning faces charges of obtaining and distributing government secrets – which he allegedly leaked to the anti-secrecy website Wikileaks. The Article 32 hearing will determine whether Mr Manning is to stand trial and is the first opportunity for his defence team to present their case.
“WikiLeaks has lost an estimated 95% of donations due to financial blockade,” WikiLeaks spokeswoman Kristinn Hrafnsson said.
The U.S. Department of Justice has expanded its investigation of WikiLeaks-related accounts to encompass Google and Internet provider Sonic.net.
The emails reinforce the image of Steve as a man of few words. 88% of his messages contain three or fewer words, with 84% of those offering only one: “No.”
WikiLeaks disclosed its entire archive of U.S. State Department cables Friday, much if not all of it uncensored – a move that drew stinging condemnation from major newspapers which in the past collaborated with the anti-secrecy group’s efforts to expose corruption and double-dealing.
